Rendered Concept Planting Plan
This residence in Rancho Bernardo was transformed into a welcoming and functional outdoor space with a Mediterranean/Spanish style design. The front yard now features an enclosed courtyard that maintains an open feel, with a stucco wall and horizontal fencing providing both privacy and style. A new horizontal wood gate with stucco pilasters enhances the entrance, while a curved patio with pavers creates a perfect gathering space for family and friends. Drought-tolerant plants were carefully selected to add year-round interest and attract pollinators, complementing a fresh sod lawn designed for the homeowners’ two large dogs. New landscape lighting ensures the space remains inviting even after sunset. This project skillfully balanced privacy needs with city codes and H.O.A. guidelines, resulting in a seamless and stylish front yard renovation.
Key Design Elements

Enclosed Courtyard
Enclosed the courtyard with a stucco wall to match the color and texture of the exterior house wall. The wall was 30” high with an 18” high horizontal fence installed on top to provide privacy from the street.

Stucco Wall, Horizontal Fence & Gate
Installed a new horizontal style wood gate with stucco pilasters that matches the new stucco wall.

Curved Paver Patio
Patio to provide a family gathering space in front yard. We used a 3-Piece Belgard Catalina Grana Large Paver in Bella for a curved patio and pathways. Installed new landscape light fixtures throughout the front yard to make the patio inviting even at night.

Drought-tolerant Plants
Installed healthy drought tolerant plant material to add interest throughout the year and attract pollinators into the garden.
